NHS England chief Amanda Pritchard to step down

The pinnacle of NHS England has introduced she is standing down.

Amanda Pritchard took on the function in 2021, having beforehand served as NHS England’s chief working officer, and earlier than that, the previous head of Man’s and St Thomas’ NHS Basis Belief.

Her choice to step down comes weeks after MPs on the cross-party Commons well being and social care committee accused her of missing the “drive and dynamism” to radically reform the service.

It has been a “hugely difficult decision for me to stand down”, she stated in an announcement.

“It has been an enormous privilege to lead the NHS in England through what has undoubtedly been the most difficult period in its history.”

Well being Secretary Wes Streeting stated Ms Pritchard could possibly be “enormously proud” of her tenure.

He stated: “Amanda can be enormously proud of the leadership she has given in the face of the biggest health emergency for our country in modern history, as well as steering NHS England during turbulent political waters and six secretaries of state in her time as chief executive.

“She has led with integrity and unwavering dedication.”

NHS England said that, having discussed everything with Health Secretary Wes Streeting in recent months – and now that the NHS has “turned a nook on restoration from the pandemic and the foundations are in place to make the required modifications to the centre to finest help the broader NHS” – Ms Pritchard had “determined now could be the suitable time to face down”.

Sir James Mackey will take over as “transition” chief govt from the primary of April on a secondment foundation, it stated.

He’s the chief govt of Newcastle Hospitals Basis Belief and nationwide director of elective restoration.
