Pistons legend George Blaha to be enshrined in Naismith Basketball Corridor of Fame

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Legendary Michigan broadcaster George Blaha is receiving his roses from the Naismith Basketball Corridor of Fame.

The group introduced throughout the NBA’s All-Star weekend that the Pistons’ play-by-play man might be one in every of 4 recipients of the Corridor of Fame’s 2025 Curt Gowdy Media Award.

Blaha, who was raised in Grayling, has served because the Pistons’ broadcaster for 49 seasons, calling greater than 3,400 regular-season video games, over 260 playoff video games and all three of the group’s NBA championships (1989, 1990, 2004).

“His iconic play-by-play calls have made him a beloved figure among Detroit fans and cemented him as one of the most enduring and recognizable voices in the game,” the Naismith Corridor of Fame mentioned in a press release.

Blaha has dealt with play-by-play duties for one more group even longer. He joined the printed group for Michigan State Soccer in 1971 and continues to juggle each tasks.

He obtained the Ty Tyson Award for broadcasting excellence from the Detroit Sports activities Broadcasters Affiliation in 2002 and was inducted into the Michigan Sports activities Corridor of Fame in 2008.

The 79-year-old instructed The Detroit Information that he felt honored when he obtained the decision.

“I have to say, it’s thrilling to be part of that organization and truly to be singled out among the broadcasters,” Blaha instructed The Information. “I’ve been to Springfield (Massachusetts) any number of times, and now I get to go back as an honoree. It’s going to be awesome.”

Longtime CBS Sports activities analyst Clark Kellogg, veteran ladies’s basketball reporter Michelle Smith and former NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski will be a part of Blaha as media members within the class of 2025.
