Police examine, victims communicate out after assault in Jackson

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — A Jackson couple is talking out after they are saying they have been assaulted by man sporting a ski masks and wielding a metallic object. The couple advised authorities they noticed the person attempting to deflate their tires earlier than confronting him.

“I immediately ran up and kicked him in the face. And then he stood up and pushed his ex-wife to the ground,” stated one of many assault victims, Jerrod Hinkle.

The Blackman-Leoni Division of Public Security say they have been known as to the realm of N Lakeside Drive and fifth Road for a reported felonious assault.

Hinkle says he chased the suspect, a 41 yr previous Jackson man, and took off the masks to disclose his id, later passing it on to authorities.

“I did not know who it was. After we struggled for a while, I ended up ripping the ski mask off and I could ID him because it was my girlfriend’s ex-husband, so there’s been a little bit of a past there,” Hinkle stated.

Police say the suspect was positioned at a house on Catalpa Drive with two youngsters inside — flashing a handgun and refusing to go away. They are saying this led to a five-hour negotiation with the Jackson County Particular Response and negotiator groups.

“He ended up getting on the phone with his ex-wife. The negotiators wanted her to stay on the phone with the child as long as possible,” Hinkle stated. “He ended up releasing one child and then kept the other child in the house.”

Hinkle says he was advised by police that he could be notified of subsequent steps within the course of and if the person could be let out.

“They also told me how serious the crime was, that they would contact me if he was going to be released from jail. And again, we haven’t heard anything. We found out only because he tried contacting her again,” Hinkle stated.

Hinkle says the decision from the ex-husband occurred at 7 a-m this morning.
