Police Scotland investigating report of ‘irregularities’ in Alba Social gathering funds

Police Scotland investigating report of ‘irregularities’ in Alba Social gathering funds

Police Scotland is investigating “irregularities” within the funds of the Alba Social gathering.

The power stated a grievance was lodged by the pro-independence social gathering on 26 Could, precisely two months after Kenny MacAskill received its management contest in mild of Alex Salmond’s loss of life.

An Alba Social gathering spokesperson added: “This review was undertaken with the full support of the Alba Party NEC.

“Subsequently numerous inner monetary and administrative irregularities have come to mild.

“In line with our legal and fiduciary duties these concerns have now been passed to the relevant authorities.

“The social gathering formally reported its considerations to Police Scotland. As there may be now a stay police investigation we’re unable to remark additional right now.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “On 26 May 2025, we received a complaint from the Alba Party in relation to irregularities within their finances.

“The investigation into this matter is ongoing.”

The Alba Social gathering was based in 2021 and was led by Mr Salmond till his loss of life in 2024.

On 26 March, Mr MacAskill was elected the brand new chief of the social gathering and vowed to ship his predecessor’s “dream of independence” for Scotland.

The previous MP and MSP noticed off competitors from rival candidate MSP Ash Regan.

Earlier this month, Ms Regan give up because the social gathering’s sole MSP and is now sitting as an impartial for the Edinburgh Japanese constituency.
