A Lebanese pop star turned needed Islamist militant has appeared in courtroom after 12 years on the run.
Fadel Chaker had been hiding in Palestinian refugee camp Ein el-Hilweh since bloody road clashes erupted between Sunni Muslim militants and the Lebanese military in June 2013 within the coastal metropolis of Sidon.
He was sentenced to 22 years in jail in 2020 for offering assist to a “terrorist group” after being tried in absentia.
As a part of the deal that persuaded Chaker to show himself in, the sentences he obtained whereas on the run can be dropped.
He would even be questioned in preparation to face trial on new costs of committing crimes towards the navy.
