Practically 20 headstones in Fowlerville broken by "reckless" driver

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A driver broken practically 20 headstones in a Fowlerville cemetery over the weekend, a few of which date again to World Warfare II, in response to the village’s police division.

Police say the driving force was dashing and left the roadway, driving via a cemetery and inflicting 1000’s of {dollars} in harm to property within the village and ultimately, virtually 20 “historic and irreplaceable” headstones.

Police say the incident has generated lots of concern and heartbreak in the neighborhood. In a Wednesday social media put up, they are saying they’re working to carry the driving force accountable.

“We understand how upsetting and emotional this is for many, and we share your anger and sadness,” wrote the division. “Our department is committed to seeing this through and ensuring accountability for this senseless act.”

The police division is reminding the general public to not take dangers whereas driving.

“This is a heartbreaking reminder of the damage one bad decision can cause. If you feel that you should not be behind the wheel, whether it’s because you’ve had too much to drink, used any kind of drug, or are simply too tired, don’t!” wrote the Fowlerville Police Division in a social media put up. “Call a friend, a family member, or use a rideshare. Lives and legacies depend on it.”

The driving force was recognized by police, who say “appropriate actions are being taken.”
