Let’s hear it for the soccer gamers embracing soccer as kickers.
Final weekend was a memorable one for kickers who started as soccer gamers.
Nico Talbott, in his varsity debut for Mira Costa, booted a 49-yard discipline objective. CJ Wallace of St. John Bosco had a 47-yard discipline objective. Noah Thayer of JSerra made a 53-yard discipline objective. Gabriel Goroyan of Westlake has kicked discipline objectives of 45 and 42 yards and stays a soccer participant.
Sophomore Eddy Vigueras, a member of Birmingham’s highly effective soccer program, has made two discipline objectives this season. One other Birmingham soccer participant, Carlos Esnal, is booming balls into the top zone on kickoffs. Sadly, Vigueras suffered a damaged fibula this previous weekend — enjoying membership soccer. His anticipated alternative is one other soccer participant, Dante Diloretto, who’s recovering from a torn ACL suffered throughout soccer season.
“So far, so good,” Birmingham coach Jim Rose mentioned of his custom counting on the soccer workforce to produce kickers. “Usually our kicker is ex or current soccer player. The first time Carlos ever kicked, he had an 80-yarder into the end zone. Punting is a lot harder to teach.”
