Prepare passengers obtain Islamophobic messages after cyber assault

Prepare passengers at a number of the nation’s greatest rail stations have been hit by a “cyber security incident” which noticed them uncovered to Islamophobic messages.

Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New Avenue and 11 stations in London had been affected by the cyber assault on Wednesday.

Passengers making an attempt to go online to public wifi on the Community Railway-managed stations had been focused with the Islamophobic message.

Community Rail has suspended wifi providers at stations throughout the nation following the incident.

The one Community Rail-managed station not affected was London’s St Pancras.

A Community Rail spokesperson, stated: “Last night the public wifi at 19 of Network Rail’s managed stations was subjected to a cyber security incident and was quickly taken off-line.

“The incident is topic to a full investigation. The wifi is supplied by a 3rd get together, is self-contained and is a straightforward ‘click on & join’ service that does not gather any private information.

“Once our final security checks have been completed, we anticipate the service will be restored by the weekend.”

A British Transport police spokesperson stated: “We received reports at around 5.03pm yesterday (Wednesday) of a cyber attack displaying Islamophobic messaging on some Network Rail Wi-Fi services.

“We’re working alongside Community Rail to research the incident at tempo.”
