A former speaker of the Ukrainian parliament has been shot lifeless in Lviv.

Authorities stated the gunman fired a number of photographs at Andriy Parubiy, 54, killing him on the spot within the western metropolis.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided his condolences after what he referred to as a “horrendous murder”.

“All necessary forces and means are engaged in the investigation and search for the killer,” he stated in a publish on X.

Overseas minister Andrii Sybiha described Mr Parubiy, who was parliamentary speaker from April 2016 to August 2019, as “a patriot and statesman”.

“He was a man who rightfully belongs in the history books,” he stated in a tribute on Telegram.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko referred to as for a immediate investigation of the homicide, calling it “a profound loss” for the nation.

“You always remained a patriot of Ukraine and made a great contribution to the formation of our state,” she wrote on X.
