LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — 1000’s gathered to voice frustration over the nation’s path, with audio system and attendees citing tariffs, federal spending cuts and immigration enforcement as prime issues.

Jake Miller mentioned tariffs have pushed up costs for on a regular basis items. “I think the main thing for me is tariffs. I don’t think this man knows how tariffs work,” Miller mentioned. “Those prices have been passed on to us, and now it’s basically becoming very not affordable to live anymore.”

Barbara Merlihan and Karen Clark traveled from Battle Creek to affix fellow Michiganders. “We need to show up in larger numbers and prove that we, the people, are larger and stronger than those that are in government,” Merlihan mentioned.

As federal cuts have an effect on packages nationwide, Landon Jones mentioned he worries about kinfolk who depend on authorities advantages.

“I got family who are on Medicaid and Medicare. They’re pretty much just about to get kicked off of that, too,” Jones mentioned. “They don’t have that crutch anymore. I worry that I won’t have a grandma, grandpa or any family member that’s on it for any much longer if they come down with something. Because most of my family that are on it are older.”

Richard Lieske mentioned individuals in his neighborhood have already felt the impression of federal adjustments. “I have three nieces and nephews who have been furloughed or fired already by DOGE. They have no money now,” Lieske mentioned.

Miller additionally mentioned immigration enforcement has heightened anxiousness in his neighborhood. “I do actually live right by an Ethnic Nationality Christian Church. I do worry about them a lot,” he mentioned.
