Reynolds axes Board of Commerce members as Funding Summit looms

Jonathan Reynolds, the enterprise secretary, has axed authorities advisers together with the founding father of Anya Hindmarch, the boss of Common Music Group and a former Lord Mayor of the Metropolis of London, it has emerged simply days earlier than Labour’s flagship funding summit.

The earlier crop of members have been appointed by Kemi Badenoch, the then enterprise secretary and now Conservative Celebration management contender, in September 2023.

Amongst them have been Sir Nicholas Lyons, a former Lord Mayor who now chairs Phoenix Group; Sir Lucian Grainge, the UMG chairman and CEO; Anya Hindmarch; Tufan Erginbilgic, the Rolls-Royce Holdings CEO; and Karen Betts, boss of the Meals and Drink Federation.

Mr Reynolds is listed because the Board of Commerce’s president, and is claimed to be planning to nominate a brand new group of members through the autumn.

A authorities insider identified that its members have been appointed for both one-year or two-year phrases.

The Board of Commerce was initially established as a car for selling worldwide commerce hyperlinks within the seventeenth century, however was dormant for many years till its revival in 2017.

“Some are calling for another dry, report-writing board, but this new board will be fixers,” Ms Badenoch stated when she introduced the members final yr.

“As we seize the immense trading opportunities post-Brexit, we need to pull our socks up and be a team of doers. I’m confident the new Board of Trade will fulfil that ambition.”
