Russian authorities have outlawed Amnesty Worldwide, that means involvement with the human rights group is now a legal offence.
The choice by the prosecutor common’s workplace is the most recent crackdown on Kremlin critics, journalists and activists that intensified after Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
In its assertion, the workplace stated that Amnesty Worldwide was a “centre for the preparation of global Russophobic projects”, and accused it of advocating on behalf of Ukraine.
The designation means the group should cease any work in Russia, and anybody who cooperates or helps it may face prosecution.
Amnesty didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.
Based in 1961 and headquartered in London, Amnesty Worldwide campaigns for human rights the world over, together with on behalf of these it designates prisoners of conscience.
