'Selfless': Sergeant honored for serving to injured lady

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Clare County sheriff’s deputy is being honored for braving a probably harmful dwelling to assist a 12-year-old lady who had been shot.

Sgt. James Dawson was introduced with the Sheriff’s Workplace Bravery Award Thursday, the Clare County Sheriff’s Workplace introduced in a launch, for his “brave and selfless acts” Tuesday close to the Isabella-Midland county line.

Round midnight Tuesday, troopers responded to a house on NE County Line Street close to Shearer Street, northwest of Midland, for a report of photographs fired, based on the Michigan State Police.

When troopers approached, they are saying a person got here out of the house and shot at them. Troopers returned hearth and the person went again into the house, based on MSP.

Dawson responded to the scene to help state police. When he confirmed up, he discovered that the person was believed to be again inside the house or in a car within the driveway, the discharge says. Additionally inside the house, a trooper instructed Dawson, was a 12-year-old lady who had suffered a gunshot wound, based on the sheriff’s workplace.

When Dawson heard this, he “recognized the need for immediate action” to get the lady out in order that she might get medical consideration, the workplace mentioned. Touring by way of the woods, Dawson made his strategy to the house. Alone, he made entry and located the 12-year-old lady, based on the Clare County Sheriff’s Workplace.

The sheriff’s workplace reported that the lady was scared to depart, as a result of the person had not been taken into custody, however Dawson reassured her that he would preserve her protected. He helped the lady out of the house and right into a ready ambulance. She was taken to the hospital; state police mentioned her accidents weren’t thought of life-threatening.

The person was ultimately taken into custody round 4 p.m. Tuesday, based on MSP.

The sheriff’s workplace praised Dawson for his actions, saying he “acted selflessly” and put himself at risk to assist the injured lady.
