Senate Democrats search solutions on Trump's navy deployments

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Because the Trump administration threatens to deploy the navy to cities throughout the nation, U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, together with different Democrats within the Senate Armed Providers Committee (SASC), known as for a listening to to evaluation these deployments.

“The American individuals deserve readability on the short- and long-term implications for nationwide safety and accountable stewardship of taxpayer {dollars} of this new give attention to a mission often reserved for legislation enforcement professionals,” the lawmakers wrote collectively in a information launch.

On Monday, President Donald Trump despatched Nationwide Guard troops to Memphis. He beforehand despatched the navy to Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.

Mike Rogers, a former U.S. Rep. and presently a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in 2026, known as on Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan earlier this month to ask Trump to ship the navy to Detroit.

At a Wednesday rally in Howell, Michigan, Vice President JD Vance advised the group his message to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is “all you gotta do is ask” to deploy the Nationwide Guard to Detroit.

Mike Rogers, a former U.S. Rep., known as on Detroit’s mayor to ask Trump for crime assist earlier this month, saying the town had develop into a “hub” for violent crime.
