Senate minority chief Aric Nesbitt will run for Michigan governor

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan state lawmaker is within the working to be the Republican nominee for governor.

Senate Minority Chief Aric Nesbitt R-Porter Township, mentioned he’s entering into the race early within the hopes of constructing statewide title recognition.

“As I start the campaign, it is going to be a Michigan first campaign. That means workers first, families first and students first. For too long Michigan government has failed and it’s time to change that,” mentioned Nesbitt.

To The Level: Nesbitt on divided authorities in Lansing

Nesbitt is amongst six generations of farmers in southwest Michigan. He lives in Lawton together with his spouse, Trisha, and their two youngsters.

The 44-year-old conservative lawmaker served three phrases as a member of the Michigan Home earlier than changing into a state senator in 2019.

Nesbitt mentioned it’s time to “put Michigan first.” The senator is a supporter of President-elect Donald Trump. He mentioned he might be searching for Trump’s endorsement.

“What we have seen out of Lansing over the last six years — Michigan families deserve so much better than what they’re getting. They’re not getting the value they deserve. At the end of the day, it’s about who’s going to be able to get things done. To provide the vision for the state and making sure we’re putting workers and families and students first,” mentioned Nesbitt.

Nesbitt joins Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan as the primary candidates to announce a run for governor. Duggan has indicated he’ll run as an impartial.
