LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Six payments centered round Michigan’s roadways have been signed into regulation by Governor Gretchen Whitmer Tuesday morning.
HB 4132 and HB 4133 will implement security cameras in marked street work zones. At the least 23 different states at present use comparable expertise, and officers say their use has diminished rushing in building zones and elevated security for street employees.
“Maintaining Michigan’s roads is vital for our state’s economic development and success,” stated state Consultant Will Snyder (D-Muskegon), HB 4132 sponsor. “In order to accomplish this, we must first ensure that our road workers are safe while doing their jobs.”
HB 4928, HB 4929, and HB 4920 will equip faculty buses with cameras that may observe those that fail to cease for college buses. The laws will allocate the cash from fines paid by violators again to highschool districts for use for transportation security.
“As a former teacher, student safety matters a great deal to me. Far too many drivers ignore stop signals on school buses putting children at risk. This legislation gives law enforcement the tools they need to ensure kids` safe travel to and from school,” stated state Consultant Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights).
HB 5717 designates a portion of I-75 in Saginaw County because the Trooper Joel E. Popp Memorial Freeway, honoring a state trooper who died whereas responding to a site visitors accident in Jan. 2024.
“It is a bittersweet day it is a day of remembrance and honor. In May, our hometown tragically lost Trooper Joel E. Popp during a traffic stop,” stated state Consultant Amos ONeal (D-Saginaw). “A portion of I-75 will now bear Popp’s name and recognize him, his work and his dedication as a trooper and as a family man may he always be remembered.”
