GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin will ship the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s handle to a joint session of Congress subsequent week, occasion leaders introduced Thursday.
The Republican president’s remarks are scheduled for Tuesday, March 4.
Slotkin, a Democrat who gained Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat in November, mentioned she was “looking forward to speaking directly to the American people.”
“The public expects leaders to level with them on what’s actually happening in our country,” Slotkin, of Holly, acknowledged. “From our economic security to our national security, we’ve got to chart a way forward that actually improves people’s lives in the country we all love, and I’m looking forward to laying that out.”
In a launch, Senate Democratic Chief Chuck Schumer of New York described the Michigan senator as “nothing short of a rising star in (the Democratic) party.”
“She will offer a bold vision of hope, unity, and a brighter future for everyone, not just the wealthy few at the top,” Schumer’s assertion continued.
U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., will give the Democrats’ Spanish language response to Trump’s handle.
