"So, to me, serving is just a part of who you are": Alpha Kappa Alpha hosts twenty second Jazz Brunch

EAST LANSING, Mich.(WLNS)— Alpha Kappa Alpha Lansing Chapter gave again to the neighborhood with an annual Jazz brunch. 

Alpha Kappa Alpha hosted its twenty second annual Jazz Brunch Saturday afternoon. 

The brunch is a fundraiser to help Lansing and East Lansing Communities members. 

Sandra Seaton, Fundraiser Chair and AKA member, says the funding will go to Haven Home, a homeless shelter, and a non-profit known as Constructing Little one and Household Initiatives. 

She says they’re going to additionally give away three scholarships to graduating Excessive Faculty seniors. 

She says the occasion is all about serving the neighborhood. 

“So, to me, serving simply is part of who you’re,” stated Seaton.

Shequoya Thompson, Group Engagement Director at Haven Home, says the funds will cowl the prices for households transfer into the shelter. 

“They have come in and prepared meals,” said Thompson. “They have also supported us in providing different items that we’ve needed for our families as well.”

Marian Brooks Bryant, Government Director at Constructing Little one and Household Initiatives says Alpha Kappa Alpha has been a supporter of the group for years. 

“Be able to count on funding for our summer programs,” said Bryant. “We do two summer programs that provide to the community.”

She says the cash is just not just for the youngsters, however the mother and father as nicely. 

“As a result of mother and father are on the lookout for some of these actions for his or her children in the course of the summer time and a whole lot of them do not have the means to pay for it,” stated Bryant.

Seaton says her love of serving to others derives from her childhood. 

“I grew up round girls who felt a really sturdy need and want to present again to the neighborhood,” stated Seaton. 

Her need is what drove her to grow to be an AKA and a Good Samaritan.
