South Lansing property set for $3.8 million redevelopment

South Lansing property set for .8 million redevelopment

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Mayor Andy Schor joined builders Tuesday to announce the redevelopment of a property in south Lansing.

The $3.8 million improvement would open a shopping mall at 820 W. Miller Highway, which has been vacant since 2015. The proposal, permitted by Metropolis Council earlier this 12 months, would come with a restaurant, an occasion venue and a laundromat.

Schor mentioned he found this challenge 4 years in the past whereas knocking on doorways for his re-election marketing campaign. As he tells the story, Schor knocked on the builders’ door they usually instantly began speaking about plans for this area.

“They are not the traditional children of children of developers,” Schor mentioned. “They are tremendous citizens.”

Builders James Denning and Melissa White purchased the 12,200 sq. foot property in 2021 with plans to redevelop the positioning. The challenge is estimated to create 13 full-time and 4 seasonal jobs with an “average hourly wage” of $14 per hour, in line with the plans offered by the town.

“A project like this is not for the weak,” White mentioned. “We’re not a big corporation, we don’t have a huge team. We’re just regular southsiders that work hard every day and are just trying to invest what we have into something that will be great for the community.”

White mentioned it’s a “sigh of relief” to get began on the challenge after proudly owning the property for 4 years.

A lot of the work is focused to be accomplished by 2027, however paperwork don’t specify an finish date.
