JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) – The South Michigan Meals Financial institution is unveiling its new Cell Markets initiative, a part of a rising effort to combat starvation and assist households in rural communities.

The Jackson Neighborhood Basis is teaming up with the South Michigan Meals Financial institution to deliver “mobile markets” to the neighborhood, providing a wide range of free, nutritious contemporary fruit, protein, and dairy merchandise.
We provide 4 totally different meal kits. They get to decide on one. We do have potatoes right this moment, and we’ve apples. We have now some type of a beverage, whether or not it’s a wholesome soda pop,or a water or seltzer water,” Pancost stated.

As Medicaid and meals help packages are set to alter on the federal stage, Pancost says the native want for meals pantries is beginning to rise.
“Numbers are going up as Medicare, Medicaid, and all the food assistance programs is changing. So we are noticing numbers going up, so it’s always nice to partner with different agencies to get that extra money to help get that extra food out into the communities,” Pancost stated.

Jackson native Fred Parker says meals banks like these are essential to serving to center and lower-class households proceed to thrive.
“Whatever situation that you’re in, these times are hard. And so, to be able to have resources that you can have, that you can add to your menu that can help you enhance what you have,” stated Parker. “Food scarcity is a problem nowadays.”
