State of emergency declared in 10 counties after extreme ice storm strikes northern decrease MI

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has declared a state of emergency for 10 counties in northern decrease Michigan following a extreme ice storm that struck the area yesterday.

Counties underneath a state of emergency:

Alpena

Charlevoix

Cheboygan

Emmet

Mackinac

Montmorency

Oscoda

Otsego

Presque Isle

The Michigan State Police (MSP) says the declaration of a state of emergency will assist with response and restoration efforts within the communities affected by the ice storms that precipitated 1000’s of individuals to lose energy and entry to fundamental requirements.  

The ice storm ripped via the area yesterday, flattening timber and powerlines and creating harmful driving circumstances.

Utility corporations are at the moment working to revive energy to 1000’s of properties.

MSP experiences that native sources have confirmed inadequate to deal with the state of affairs throughout the area.

By declaring a state of emergency, all of the state’s sources can be found to help with response and restoration efforts within the designated areas.

The declaration offers that the Michigan State Police, Emergency Administration and Homeland Safety Division (MSP/EMHSD) will coordinate state efforts.
