Syrian man crushed to demise making an attempt to cross Channel on small boat

Two folks have been arrested, a regional official advised the company.

“Last night, 30 migrants tried to get into the water on the beach at Sangatte,” the official stated, including that the boat leaked so all of them disembarked.

The person, who was in his 20s, had suffered a cardiac arrest.

He had “probably” been crushed to demise, officers stated.

It is the primary migrant demise reported by authorities in 2025.

A UK authorities spokesperson confirmed the demise, which it stated occurred “on the French coast”.

They added: “This newest tragedy underlines the horrible risks of small boat crossings, and we proceed to do the whole lot we will to forestall them.

“These criminals only care about profit, not the lives they put at risk, which is why they are cramming ever-greater numbers of people onto increasingly flimsy and dangerous boats.”

The federal government has stated it would introduce a “world first” sanctions regime to focus on folks smugglers, as a part of Labour’s plan to scale back the numbers of individuals risking their lives to cross the English Channel.

The variety of folks making the perilous journey has surged in recent times, with increasingly folks packed aboard inflatable boats.
