The world’s oldest residing particular person is now a football-loving nun from Brazil

The world’s oldest residing particular person has been revealed – and she or he is a 116-year-old nun from Brazil.

Sister Inah Canabarro, who was born on 8 June 1908, turned the world’s oldest particular person following the loss of life of a lady from Japan on 29 December.

LongeviQuest, an organisation that tracks supercentenarians across the globe, mentioned the wheelchair-bound nun’s achievement had been validated by adolescence data.

She ranks because the twentieth oldest particular person to have lived – a listing topped by France’s Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 on the age of 122.

Ms Canabarro has mentioned the key to her longevity is her Catholic religion.

In a video shared by LongeviQuest final 12 months, the nun was cracking jokes, reciting the Hail Mary prayer and sharing miniature work she used to make of untamed flowers.

“I’m young, pretty and friendly – all very good, positive qualities that you have too,” she instructed guests to her retirement residence within the southern Brazilian metropolis of Porto Alegre.

The 116-year-old was born to a big household in southern Brazil and took up spiritual work as an adolescent.

She spent two years in Montevideo, Uruguay, earlier than transferring to Rio de Janeiro and ultimately nearer to residence in southern Brazil.

The nun was honoured by Pope Francis for her a hundred and tenth birthday and is now the second oldest nun ever documented, after Lucile Randon, who lived to 118.

She is an avid soccer fan and her native membership Inter celebrates her birthday yearly with a cake and balloons within the staff’s crimson and white colors.

Ms Canabarro took the title of the oldest residing particular person after the loss of life of Tomiko Itooka at a care residence in Ashiya, central Japan.
