Tons of have fun the tenth Annual Michigan Nordic Fireplace Pageant

CHARLOTTE, Mich. (WLNS) — Tons of of Michiganders grabbed their Viking hats and furs for the Michigan Nordic Fireplace Pageant over the weekend. The tenth annual Michigan Nordic Fireplace Pageant kicked off Friday and lasted till Sunday.

The occasion featured Viking camps, battle reenactments, and a bear scare the place children race after ‘Nerd Knights’.

Allen Reddig, a cosplayer, says he visited the competition due to his love of Viking historical past, and it gave him an opportunity to decorate up.

“Most of my ancestors are Germanic,” said Reddig. “But I love learning about Nordic culture, and I also like mead. The honey wine.”

He says the occasion allowed him to immerse himself in what Viking life was like.

“I’m a chef so I love learning about the different foods that they ate,” said Reddig. “I love learning about the different weapons they had. Lots of spears!”

Jason Evola, one other cosplayer, says the occasion gave him an opportunity to discover Nordic style.

“Keep it in mind Vikings were travelers,” said Evola. “So, they always had to dress for different climates. So it’s kind of cool to see what they adopted from different cultures, and what they’ve brought around, and how they’ve spread.”

Cassidy Brown, Grasp of Ceremonies for the competition, says the occasion supplied extra than simply leisure.

“We have lessons for rune making,” said Brown. “We’ve had different battle lessons. Everyone of our encampment groups has a huge passion for educating the public.”

Brown says the occasion is an opportunity to carry the group collectively.

“We tend to give back to our community,” said Brown. “That’s the purpose of this to build the community within the people who are like-minded, and enjoy the Nordic culture.”
