Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner ought to face an ethics inquiry over her tax affairs, the Conservatives have mentioned.
It comes after The Each day Telegraph claimed Ms Rayner, who can be housing secretary, prevented £40,000 in stamp responsibility on a second dwelling in East Sussex by eradicating her title from the deeds of one other property in Larger Manchester.
Stamp responsibility is a tax paid in England and Northern Eire when somebody buys a property over a sure value.
Conservative chairman Kevin Hollinrake has written to the impartial adviser on ministerial requirements, Sir Laurie Magnus, requesting he examine whether or not Ms Rayner broke ministerial guidelines.
In a letter to Sir Laurie, Mr Hollinrake described Ms Rayner’s preparations as “hypocritical tax avoidance, by a minister who supports higher taxes on family homes, high-value homes and second homes”.
As housing secretary, Ms Rayner is answerable for overseeing council tax and housing coverage.
Mr Hollinrake mentioned the statements she had given on her residency had been “contradictory”, however conceded she had damaged no legal guidelines.
A spokesperson for Ms Rayner has mentioned she “paid the correct duty” on the acquisition “entirely properly” – and “any suggestion otherwise is entirely without basis”.
