The mayor of Istanbul and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s most important rival has been formally arrested and jailed pending trial over corruption fees.

Ekrem Imamoglu was initially detained on Sunday – sparking widespread protests throughout Turkey which have since intensified.

Mr Imamoglu, a preferred opposition determine with the Republican Folks’s Celebration, was additionally detained over allegations of hyperlinks to terror organisations.
