UK web person helps cease teenager launching lethal assault on Ukrainian faculty

A UK web person helped police cease a youngster from unleashing a lethal assault on his faculty in Ukraine, the Metropolitan Police has mentioned.

The nameless referral was made to the Met’s Counter Terrorism Web Referral Unit on 4 September, in accordance with the pressure.

It warned of an “imminent attack being planned by an individual in Ukraine” and was instantly handed to Europol to assist alert native police.

A day later, a 15-year-old boy was arrested at a college in Zakarpattia, western Ukraine, the nation’s ministry for inside affairs confirmed in a put up on X.

The boy was a scholar on the faculty and was arrested with a knife in his backpack whereas he was livestreaming the incident on-line, the put up revealed.

It was accompanied by a picture of the knife, cellphone, and rucksack seized by police on the scene.

Commander Dominic Murphy, of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, described the intel and subsequent response as a “truly remarkable piece of work”.

“The swift actions by our officers alerting Ukrainian counterparts have helped to avert what could have been a potentially devastating attack at a school in Ukraine,” he mentioned.

“It’s all the more remarkable when you consider the incredible difficulties those in Ukraine are facing while fighting a war, but thanks to our collective efforts, lives have almost certainly been saved.”

He urged folks within the UK to report something suspicious they see on-line to the Met’s web unit to allow them to work with worldwide companions to thwart different potential incidents.
