EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A brand new UM Well being-Sparrow clinic has opened inside East Lansing Excessive Faculty, bringing docs, nurses, and counselors on to college students to make care extra handy for households throughout mid-Michigan.
“The clinic is here to serve all patients between the ages of 5 and 21, regardless of their ability to pay,” UM Well being-Sparrow household doctor Dr. Greg Holzhei stated. “The clinic is funded through a grant of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which will help provide that care to our patients.”
The varsity-based well being middle gives major care providers like checkups and screenings, together with non-public areas for psychological well being help.

“So many students are suffering with mental health, and so we’re able to provide mental health services,” Holzhei stated. “We have a physician assistant that can help direct the care, but we also have a social worker that can do individual visits or even group visits for groups of patients that need that care.”
Dori Leyko, superintendent for East Lansing Public Faculties, stated entry to care helps pupil success out and in of the classroom.
“We know that students who are more connected to school activities and have better school experiences, stay in school, and just have a better sense of belonging,” Leyko stated.
The clinic is open to any younger individual ages 5 to 21 in mid-Michigan, not simply East Lansing college students.
“That includes our East Lansing students, community… but it also goes outside of just the East Lansing community. Anybody within that age range can come and access our health center,” Leyko stated.
Faculty leaders say employees is already in place and the well being middle will host year-round schooling tasks on well being subjects related to youngsters.
