Israel has banned the UN Palestinian refugee company UNRWA from working within the nation – a transfer which might hamper its work in Gaza.
UNRWA’s chief Philippe Lazzarini has warned the ban “will only deepen the suffering of Palestinians, especially in Gaza”.
The company, which is answerable for greater than 5 million Palestinian refugees, has come underneath repeated assault by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who says it has hyperlinks to Hamas and different militant teams.
As a part of the laws handed by Israel’s parliament on Monday, the group was designated a terror organisation.
On Sunday, seven European international ministries, together with the UK’s, stated any transfer to limit UNRWA’s work would have “devastating consequences on an already critical and rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation”.
“We urge the Israeli government to abide by its international obligations, keep the reserve privileges and immunities of UNRWA untouched and live up to its responsibility to facilitate full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian assistance in all its forms,” they stated in a joint assertion.
In August, 9 of the company’s workers have been sacked after an investigation discovered they might have been concerned in Hamas’s 7 October assault on Israel.
The UN started investigating alleged hyperlinks after Israel first accused the group of colluding with the assault in January.
