Jean Marsh, star of Upstairs, Downstairs, has died aged 90, a good friend has confirmed.
“You could say we were very close for 60 years,” he added. “She was as wise and funny as anyone I ever met, as well as being very pretty and kind, and talented as both an actress and writer.
“An instinctively empathetic one that was liked by everybody who met her. We spoke on the telephone virtually daily for the previous 40 years.”

Marsh was greatest recognized for her position as Rose in Upstairs, Downstairs, for which she received an Emmy for excellent lead actress in a restricted sequence in 1976.
She co-created the sequence – about life in Edwardian England – with Dame Eileen Atkins.

Born on 1 July 1934 in Stoke Newington, north London, Marsh’s mom labored in a bar and as a theatre dresser, whereas her father was a handyman and printer’s assistant.
Marsh took dance and mime courses as remedy for an sickness at a younger age, and commenced performing on stage with a stint at Huddersfield Rep within the Nineteen Fifties.
She then transferred to London, and at simply 12 years previous made her West Finish debut in The Land Of The Christmas Stockings at The Duke of York’s Theatre.

A hit within the US, Marsh appeared in iconic reveals reminiscent of The Twilight Zone, Hazard Man, Hawaii 5-O and Homicide, She Wrote.
She additionally made appearances in traditional British reveals, together with Physician Who – the place she performed William Hartnell’s short-lived companion Sara Kingdom, amongst different appearances – and Detective.
