US Air Pressure reservist raises M for UK quantum start-up TreQ

A US Air Pressure Reserve brigadier-general will this week unveil a $5m funding enhance for her British-based quantum computing start-up.

Primarily based at Milton Park, Oxfordshire, TreQ’s seed funding spherical is being led by Lavrock Ventures, a US-based enterprise agency targeted on deep tech and nationwide safety.

“Having served alongside the British military and worked here in quantum, I know the incredible talent in the UK’s tech and defence community,” Ms Birch stated.

“The UK is rapidly commercialising quantum: this aligns with our vision and desire to combine strengths among allies to fully realise quantum computing’s potential.”

A quantum pc can perform a single calculation that no typical pc can be able to inside an affordable time.

TreQ stated it selected the UK as its base due to its standing as a world quantum computing hub, and due to Ms Birch’s expertise serving with British army personnel throughout counter-terrorism operations in Africa.

The corporate stated its workforce had collectively constructed roughly a dozen quantum computer systems world wide.

It says its method is distinct from single-technology, lab-based quantum computing, with its engineers constructing techniques from a rising ecosystem of small and medium enterprises providing progressive parts.

“The UK is establishing itself as a quantum world leader, and TreQ has a team of quantum experts from across UK universities,” stated Henry Lane Fox, chairman of Creator Fund.

“It has the potential to be a catalyst for the first generation of quantum computers that address real world needs, built from this country’s innovation in this space.”
