US and EU agree commerce deal – with bloc dealing with 15% tariffs on items into America

The USA and European Union have agreed a commerce deal, says Donald Trump.

The announcement was made because the US president met European Fee chief Ursula von der Leyen at one among his golf resorts in Scotland.

Talking after talks in Turnberry, Mr Trump mentioned the EU deal was the “biggest deal ever made” and it will likely be “great for cars” in addition to having a “big impact” on agriculture.

The US will impose 15% tariffs on EU items getting into America, after Mr Trump had threatened a 30% levy.

He mentioned there will likely be an EU funding of $600bn within the US, the bloc will purchase $750bn in US vitality and also will buy US army tools.

Ms von der Leyen mentioned it was a “good deal” which can carry stability.

She mentioned the settlement would come with 15% tariffs throughout the board, and it will assist rebalance commerce between the 2 massive buying and selling companions.

Mr Trump had earlier mentioned the primary sticking level was “fairness”, citing boundaries to US exports of automobiles and agriculture.

He went into the talks demanding fairer commerce with the 27-member EU and threatening steep tariffs to attain that, whereas insisting the US is not going to go beneath 15% import taxes.

For months, Mr Trump has threatened many of the world with massive tariffs within the hope of shrinking main US commerce deficits with many key buying and selling companions, together with the EU.

In case there was no deal and the US had imposed 30% tariffs from 1 August, the EU has ready counter-tariffs on €93bn (£81bn) of US items.

Forward of their assembly on Sunday, Ms von der Leyen described Mr Trump as a “tough negotiator and dealmaker”.
