In his first time period in workplace, Mr Trump reneged on America’s help for an internationally negotiated deal over Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons programme, which noticed uranium enrichment restricted in return for sanctions being lifted.

Iran insists its nuclear programme is for civilian and peaceable functions. Nonetheless, since Mr Trump went again on the deal, Iran has returned to enriching uranium to ranges that haven’t any goal aside from constructing a nuclear weapon, say Western governments.

Mr Trump has hinted he would like a diplomatic resolution, saying a brand new cope with Iran could be “nice”.

However Mr Araghchi stated it will take much more than that for Iran to be satisfied it ought to start negotiations with the US in direction of one other deal, given what occurred with the primary.

“The situation is different and much more difficult than the previous time,” he stated. “Lots of things should be done by the other side to buy our confidence… We haven’t heard anything but the ‘nice’ word, and this is obviously not enough.”

‘Take them to Greenland’

The overseas minister was additionally dismissive of Mr Trump’s newest feedback in regards to the Center East. The re-elected president’s proposal that Gaza is cleaned out of Palestinians has prompted outrage throughout the area.

Mr Araghchi mocked the thought with one in all his personal: “My suggestion is something else. Instead of Palestinians, try to expel Israelis, take them to Greenland so they can kill two birds with one stone.”

Iran’s allies ‘are rebuilding themselves’

In his quick time period in workplace, Mr Araghchi has seen allies and associates assassinated and toppled from energy.

He conceded Iran’s allies have been weakened, saying: “Hamas and Hezbollah have been damaged. But at the same time, they are rebuilding themselves, because as I said, this is a school of thought, this is an idea, this is a cause, this is an ideal that will always be there.”

Iranians hope deal could possibly be accomplished with West

Iranians we spoke to on the streets of Tehran stated they hoped a deal could possibly be accomplished with the West if it may result in a lifting of sanctions and an enchancment in Iran’s dire financial fortunes.

Some estimates place inflation at 50%, whereas youth unemployment is close to 20% and the foreign money is at an all-time low.

Belief between Iran and America can also be at all-time low ranges. Making progress in direction of any settlement and lifting sanctions will likely be enormously difficult.
