US-Australia uncommon earth deal targets China’s stronghold

The US and Australia have taken a significant step in making an attempt to interrupt China’s chokehold on the world’s provide of important minerals.

They’ve signed an $8.5bn (£6.3bn) deal to develop mining and processing expertise collectively. They are going to spend $1bn within the first six months.

The Centre for Strategic and Worldwide Research (CSIS) in Washington, DC, says that final 12 months, Australia was the world’s prime vacation spot for uncommon earth exploration, accounting for nearly half the world’s funding.
