The American influencer who snatched a child wombat from its distressed mom has stated “thousands threatened” her life, and that she is “truly sorry” in an Instagram submit.
Sam Jones, who describes herself as an “outdoor enthusiast and hunter”, wrote a prolonged assertion on social media, saying she was “extremely concerned” concerning the wombat’s well being, so she ran away from the joey’s mom out of worry of assault.
She says she “immediately” returned it to its mom.
“I have done a great deal of reflection on this situation and have realised that I did not handle this situation as best as I should have (…) I have learnt from this situation, and am truly sorry for the distress I have caused.”
Within the now-deleted video posted to her 92,000 followers on Instagram, Jones stated: “I caught a baby wombat”, as a person filming her laughs.

Within the video, the wombat may very well be seen struggling and heard hissing as its mom adopted on the street behind.
She returned the newborn wombat to the roadside after a number of seconds.
Jones left the nation on Friday after the Australian authorities stated it was reviewing her visa.
Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticised the influencer, who sparked outrage throughout the nation, telling reporters: “To take a child wombat from its mom, and clearly inflicting misery to the mom, is simply an outrage.
“And, you know, I suggest to this so-called influencer, maybe she might try some other Australian animals.
“Take a child crocodile from its mom and see the way you go there.
“Take another animal that can actually fight back rather than stealing a baby wombat from its mother – see how you go there.”
The nation’s inside minister Tony Burke stated on Thursday that his division is reviewing the situations of the American’s visa – and whether or not she had breached immigration legislation.
The infant wombat is a protected species of marsupial discovered solely in Australia.
“Given the level of scrutiny that will happen if she ever applies for a visa again, I’ll be surprised if she even bothers,” stated Mr Burke.
“I can’t wait for Australia to see the back of this individual. I don’t expect she will return.”
