She stated one among her favourite components of the job is speaking to children after the reveals, “seeing that sparkle in their eye when they get the aviation bug.”

The squadron of F-16 fighter jets left Las Vegas and flew for about three hours, refueling midair, earlier than arriving in Battle Creek round 5 p.m.

“We executed a site survey when we first got here,” Schol stated. “The solos will separate from the diamond, we’ll go look at all of our ground references, run some timing patterns. And then the diamond will do their own site survey.”

Although there are solely six pilots, the Thunderbirds staff is 135 individuals robust, with about 70 at every present.

“Each one of them, their roles are incredibly important. We couldn’t do the mission of putting on an excellent air show without every single member doing their job to that level of excellence,” Schol stated.

The Thunderbirds are a giant draw for the air present. Vincent Van Horn introduced his household to see them, marking his first go to to Fields of Flight.

“The kids mentioned the blue planes. They were like, ‘Dad, we want to see the blue planes.’ ‘The blue planes? All right.’ So we’re here,'” he stated. “I hope to see some smoke from the back end of it — a little bit of a red, white and blue. That’s what we’re celebrating, right?”

Natasha Hager first noticed the Thunderbirds as a baby.

“I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and seeing them was a huge staple as a child. We would literally set up here at the exact same point, so we’re kind of continuing that. So being able to see the fly-in is my favorite part of the entire thing,” she stated.

Ayden Hager additionally grew up watching the them carry out.

“Growing up, my grandma would work at the VIP section and so I met the Thunderbirds. I have photos with them throughout the years, so it’s always really cool. And bringing our kids to see them it, it feels really cool. It warms the heart,” he stated.
