LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Smoothies could be a useful gizmo to be sure you’re getting your vegatables and fruits and, in some circumstances, may even act as a meal substitute.
However you wish to be sure you’re including the proper components and the correct amount.
“Many of us think that we’re just going to put a lot of vegetables in it or we’re going to put a lot of fruit in it, and there’s really no other nutrients in there,” College of Michigan Well being-Sparrow Registered Dietitian Sarah Smith, MS, RDN, defined. “You still want to think of smoothies as a balanced meal. So, you still want to include protein. You still want to include grains. You still want to include your fruits or vegetables and dairy so that the smoothie will keep you fuller longer.”
You must also be conscious of portion management. Even when including wholesome components, it could possibly result in pointless energy and overconsumption.
“If you think about the ingredients laid out in front of you in terms of, ‘Would I eat this much food in its whole form?’ Well, if your answer’s yes, then perfect – that’s the right amount for a smoothie. But if all the ingredients laid out in front of you just looks overwhelming, like a buffet, then probably that’s too much to put into your smoothie,” Smith added.
