“We reach out, we do home visits, we make sure that kids have the opportunity to know the things that they’re missing so that they can make up the work, or that they’re just re-engaged. Sometimes kids have just left, and so we want to bring them back,” says Shuldiner.

“So much success, you know we have really worked together and learned that building relationships with these students is the only way to make this happen,” says Lanew. “All they want is to be communicated with and to build a relationship and know that someone cares.”

Lanew says the perfect half is when the scholars notice what’s doable.

“It is fabulous, I get overly excited, and it’s super cool when the student themselves realizes that they’re going to make it. Yea, there’s just nothing like it, it’s life changing,” says Lanew.
