LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The town of Lansing has added historic plaques to the panorama of Durant Park that share details about the person it’s named after.

William C. Durant was one of many founders of Normal Motors, one of many largest car producers and a staple of the Michigan economic system in 1908. The corporate celebrated its 117th anniversary on Tuesday.
Durant donated the land that the park now sits on to the Metropolis of Lansing.
On Wednesday, Lansing Mayor Andy Schor and Diane Sanborn with the Associates of Durant Park spoke on the park in honor of Durant.
“We now have history for all to see,” Schor stated. “I am excited that we are honoring his legacy.”
“We are just happy it’s being done, and a great thanks to everyone,” stated Sanborn.
Metropolis of Lansing Parks and Recreation Director Brett Kaschinske highlighted the significance of the park and historic marker, saying it encourages residents to be taught extra about essential figures from the town’s previous.
The plaques displayed on the fence of the park’s central backyard focus on the historical past of Durant’s life and the way he grew to become one of many founding fathers of Michigan’s automotive business, in addition to the historical past of the park itself.
