LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — You’ve got seen the Hollywood signal. Detroit additionally has one to welcome vacationers—and now, so does Lansing.
The Metropolis of Lansing revealed its new signal this Monday afternoon. Every letter of the six-foot signal was designed by a special artist.
The challenge was made attainable with funding from the Michigan Financial Growth Company and the Neighborhood Financial Growth Affiliation.
The artists say they got just a few weeks to work on their tasks, and every artist used a novel design to signify Lansing’s folks, locations, and spirit.
Teresa Dunn, a painter and professor at Michigan State College, says she used her personal college students as inspiration for her artwork.
She was assigned to work on the letter “A”.
“A large part of my painting is dedicated to painting women of color, and I thought I wanted to represent a diverse, young, strong woman in my letter,” mentioned Dunn.
Jasmyne Wells, a painter, says she targeted her letter “N” on lived experiences she and her household had whereas rising up in Lansing.
“Some things I added because of my family’s experiences, such as the Lansing shuffle,” mentioned Wells. “I got to reconnect with my dad there. I did sell a painting to the Michigan Princess, and I also had my senior prom on the Michigan Princess. So, I added that.”
The Lansing signal is situated on Saginaw St. Hall proper subsequent to Downtown Lansing and the all-inclusive play Michigan playground.
