Lansing man going through federal jail on gun, drug prices

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A federal grand jury has indicted a Lansing man for being caught with virtually half one million {dollars} in money, a gun he was not allowed to personal, and luggage of cocaine and meth. The U.S. Lawyer for the Western District of Michigan, Mark Totten, introduced the motion Wednesday.

Officers arrested Kevin Dunson, 43, Lansing, on Nov. 1 after regulation enforcement executed a search warrant on his residence, a “stash house” and two storage models in Lansing the day earlier than.

The searches resulted in officers discovering greater than 4 kilograms of methamphetamine, roughly two kilograms of cocaine, 4 firearms, and $544,697 in money. The U.S. Lawyer’s workplace additionally stated Dunson has a number of prior felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

“The trafficking of illegal drugs is a scourge that destroys lives and harms communities,” stated U.S. Lawyer Mark Totten. “Addressing this problem requires an all-hands-on-deck approach that includes not just enforcement, but prevention and treatment, as well. While law enforcement alone will not solve this problem, we remain committed to disrupting the supply lines that bring these poisons into our communities.”

In response to the U.S. Lawyer’s workplace, the searches and arrest “were the result of months of surveillance, source information, analysis of subpoenaed records, and other investigative work that identified Dunson as a trafficker in large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine.”

If a decide or jury convicts Dunson, he’ll face a “mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and up to life on the drug charges and up to 15 years in prison on the firearms charges.”

“Illicit drug distribution erodes communities and destroys lives,” stated Orville Inexperienced, Particular Agent in Cost of the Detroit Subject Division of DEA. “This indictment should serve as an example to those who distribute poisons like methamphetamine and cocaine, that DEA will aggressively pursue and hold you accountable. This investigation demonstrates the strength and continued commitment of our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners here in Michigan.”
