Neil Younger pulls out of Glastonbury over BBC ‘company management’

Neil Younger has introduced he won’t be acting at this 12 months’s Glastonbury, saying he believes the BBC’s involvement within the in style competition means it’s “now under corporate control”.

The 79-year-old musician wrote on his web site that each he and his band, The Chrome Hearts, have been pulling out as a result of it was a “corporate turn-off”.

Glastonbury, which takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset in summer season, has labored intently with the BBC since 1997.

The BBC is the competition’s unique broadcast associate.

Canadian-born Younger had but to be introduced as an act at this 12 months’s occasion.

Posting on Neil Younger Archives, the Rock and Roll Corridor of Famer wrote: “The Chrome Hearts and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all-time favourite outdoor gigs.

“We have been informed that BBC was now a associate in Glastonbury and wished us to do plenty of issues in a means we weren’t concerned with.

“It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being.”

Younger, who headlined the well-known Pyramid Stage in 2009, thanked followers for supporting each him and his band the final time they have been on the competition.

He added: “We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be.

“Hope to see you at one of many different venues on the tour.”

Younger, who’s married to US actress Daryl Hannah, was booked to play Glastonbury in 1997 however pulled out after chopping his left index finger whereas making a ham sandwich.

In a press release on the time, the company stated it had “spent the last couple of months” negotiating with Younger’s administration over what it may present on TV, radio and on-line.

The broadcaster added: “Neil Young’s career has been conducted on his own terms.

“Final night time Neil’s administration agreed to let TV and radio broadcast 5 songs as they watched and listened to his efficiency.

“They believe in the live event and retaining its mystery and that of their artist.

“They’ve determined to make one tune obtainable on-line over the weekend to provide a flavour of his set. That is Rockin’ In The Free World and that is their determination.”

Glastonbury is likely one of the UK’s largest music festivals.

It’s set to happen between 25 and 29 June, with Sir Rod Stewart booked for the Sunday teatime legend slot.

The BBC and Glastonbury Competition have been contacted for remark.
