Falling ice closes Mackinac Bridge

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Within the wake of ice storms within the northern a part of the state that prompted the governor to declare a state of emergency, the Mackinac Bridge has closed as a consequence of falling ice.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority has closed the bridge 29 instances as a consequence of falling ice up to now 30 years. The shortest closure lasted solely 37 minutes, whereas the longest was over 20 hours.

The Authority says sheets of ice as giant as storage doorways can fall from the bridge and collapse car windshields and roofs. Prior to now, upkeep workers has pushed totally loaded plows throughout the bridge to assist shake the ice free.
