NWS confirms two tornadoes in Ingham Co. Sunday

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Nationwide Climate Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Ingham County on Sunday, in line with Ingham County Emergency Administration. This follows a confirmed EF0 twister south of Grand Rapids.

Ingham County Emergency Administration says an EF0 twister touched down in Leslie, and an EF1 was noticed within the north/northeast of Williamston close to M52.

“Well, we had two giant pear trees that were just split right in two…One of my company box trucks was flipped over,” mentioned Jeff Kodet, proprietor of the Kodet ironmongery shop chain. “Our boat is about 75 yards into the farmer’s field. We just had the roofing company out here, and hundreds of holes from shrapnel in the roof. It was definitely a tornado that came through.”

Ingham County Emergency Supervisor Rob Dale says winds had been harmful throughout the entire area on Sunday.

“It was a big storm and impacted a lot of the county. But we were able to get warnings out working with the Weather Service. We were able to activate our county wide, our tornado siren network,” says Dale. “Even in places that didn’t get a tornado, if you had 70 to 80 mile per hour winds that damaged your house, it’s the same for you. So we wanted people to get into their safe spaces regardless.”

Sunday’s extreme climate did injury throughout Mid-Michigan, knocking out energy in 1000’s of households, inflicting injury to buildings, and shutting roads resulting from particles and downed energy traces.
