Michigan Military Nationwide Guard members say goodbye to family members forward of deployment

GRAND LEDGE Mich. (WLNS) – A unit with the Michigan Military Nationwide Guard is headed abroad to assist the U.S. European Command. 

A deployment ceremony was held on the Grand Ledge Armory Thursday, the place households stated their goodbyes. That is Captain Timothy Mapley’s first deployment, and he shared why these ceremonies are so necessary.

“This is that last opportunity to give the hugs and kisses that you wish you could have done more of.” Captain Mapley continued.

He’s certainly one of round 100 troopers headed to the nation of Kosovo in Europe for as much as a yr to assist Undertaking Joint Guardian. Captain Mapley stated he’s excited to place his intense coaching to work, however goodbyes are robust. 

It’s Lieutenant Colonel Brian Snook’s third deployment and third time saying goodbye to his household. He stated that assist from family members is the true bedrock for service members. 

“That is what is going to keep you able to serve this great country,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Snook.

His spouse and youngsters will miss him loads, however the Lieutenant Colonel stated that for this deployment, know-how will assist them get by. 

“Whether it’s over the phone for a few minutes, or just getting to see my beautiful family’s face, that’s what’s going to keep me going through the entire move,” Lieutenant Colonel Snook stated. 

On the ceremony, round 25 of the 100 troopers left in helicopters for Texas. From there, they’ll head to Kosovo, and the remainder of the Military Nationwide Guard members will observe shortly. They’re within the nation to assist maintain a secure and safe atmosphere within the area.
