MSPs to vote on assisted dying in Scotland

Campaigners have gathered exterior the Scottish parliament forward of a vote on plans to legalise assisted dying.

MSP Liam McArthur tabled the invoice which, if finally handed, would permit terminally in poor health adults to hunt medical assist to finish their lives.

It comes after MPs voted in favour of comparable proposals for England and Wales.

Forward of the stage one vote of the Assisted Dying for Terminally Unwell Adults (Scotland) Invoice, Mr McArthur joined a rally of supporters exterior Holyrood.

The Scottish Liberal Democrat politician stated: “I feel that is doubtlessly a historic day for the Scottish parliament.

“I took part in and voted on the last two occasions parliament had an opportunity to consider a bill such as this.

“At the moment feels very totally different. Political temper has shifted dramatically during the last 10 years.

“So, I’m hopeful that a majority of my MSP colleagues will back the general principles and at least allow parliament the opportunity to consider the detail, consider amendments to the bill before it’s asked to take a final vote.”

Supporters consider the invoice will ease the struggling of dying Scots, whereas opponents argue it will fail to safeguard among the most weak individuals in society.

The stage one vote will happen on Tuesday night.

Campaigners from each side will proceed to stage demonstrations exterior the Scottish parliament as MSPs put together to solid their votes.

“Polling clearly shows that the public have serious concerns about the implications of a law change for vulnerable groups – even people who might support it in principle.

“Legislating for this observe would ship a regressive message that disabled individuals’s lives should not value dwelling.”
