'It takes a village': Mama Tutu speaks out after dropping son to gun violence

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — Wanda Beavers, higher recognized in Jackson as Mama Tutu, has been well-known in the neighborhood for years, at all times providing assist to others and asking for nothing in return. Now, as she grieves the lack of her 44-year-old son Anthony Owens Jr., shot and killed in Might, the group is reciprocating that care.

“They know of my son, you know. They know of me and what I do with the homeless, so therefore the community really responded really, really fast to reach out and help us at a helping needy time, ” Beavers mentioned.

Beavers’ son, 44-year-old Anthony Owens Jr., was shot and killed in Might, and she or he spoke out Tuesday in regards to the want for the group to deal with gun violence.

“It takes a village to take care of children. So, it’s going to take a village to get all of this gun violence and knives and just the violence itself together,” Beavers mentioned.

Beavers says she is grateful for the group’s assist.

“They really reached out, and Bella Notte, the community, really came through,” Beavers mentioned. “True credit union—American One—the community, the mayor, the city council. It was a lot of them.”

Beavers says she desires the world to know that her son is at peace.

“I want the world to know that he’s in a better place. No more suffering, no more pain, or anything, worrying about anything, Beavers said. “He do not have to try this as a result of he is in the home, within the dwelling of the Lord now. So, I thank God for that.”
