Mason man renovates memorial for murdered 7-year-old boy

WILLIAMSTON, Mich. (WLNS) — Virtually 20 years after the tragic homicide of 7-year-old Ricky Holland, a Mason man has now renovated the younger boy’s memorial with the hope of maintaining his reminiscence alive. 

Ricky Holland’s memorial sits on the aspect of the highway, close to the intersection of Williamston Rd. and Ewers Rd, now with a contemporary new coat of paint and flowers.

Holland went lacking again in July of 2005. After months of looking out, his physique was lastly discovered within the Dansville State Sport Space. His adoptive dad and mom, Lisa and Tom Holland, have been arrested for the homicide and sentenced to jail. 

Michigan native, Kyle Ammerman, says whereas driving house, he noticed the outdated cross, and wished to assist.

“It is an honor for me to do it. I used to be an EMS. You see a variety of tragedies within the space. I am doing this out of affection for the households and for the individuals who have handed away,” stated Kyle Ammerman.

He says the memorial was severely broken.

“It was just a plain white cross. It had a lot of damage to it. The cross piece was all rotted,” said Ammerman. “So, I decided to put a new cross piece in, paint it up.”

Ammerman says he was in Mason when he first heard in regards to the case.

 “I was watching the news. Followed it on a daily basis,” said Ammerman. “A lot of volunteers searched for this little boy. Parents, anybody that was available.” 

He says he even remembered the day Holland’s physique was discovered. 

“That dreadful day. That can by no means go away,” stated Ammerman. 

So, he does all he can to ensure nobody forgets about seven-year-old Ricky Holland. 

“It’s sad that there are people out there that would do this to an innocent child, and finally be found guilty of what they did,” stated Holland. “But it still doesn’t erase the memory of Ricky the seven years that he lived.”
