Jackson meal program feeds households throughout summer time trip

Jackson meal program feeds households throughout summer time trip

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — The Meet Up and Eat Up program in Jackson is serving up straightforward and free meals to make sure no household goes hungry. It is a summer time meal initiative that feeds the group whereas providing a dietary and monetary enhance.

“We can help out the community and keep kids learning during the summertime and keep their brains healthy, said Food Director of Jackson Public Schools Brant Russell. “The households in the neighborhood of Jackson actually depend upon meals that we serve.”

Russell says assembly the wants of kids exterior of the classroom are pivotal to teh guture success of all youngsters.

“Last year, Jackson Public Schools served about 70,000 meals during the summer time,” Russell mentioned. “This program definitely fills a need in this community.”

fifth grader Amari Peterson is from Texas and travels to Jackson durring summer time breaks to go to famil, and says applications like these permit for assembly new associates and having fun with scrumptious meals.

“My favorite part about the food is that its good, and that its free,” Peterson mentioned. 

Russell says he hopes to create an enviornment for youths hat feels protected and welcoming.

“Kids can come from wherever, though they don’t have to come from Jackson. They can be from out of the community, out of the state. We welcome anybody to our our sites,” Russell mentioned. “It gives kids a sense of knowing that there’s always a meal that they can come get.”

This system plans to introduce a brand new pop-up picnic on Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer time. The primary cookout begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 17 at Loomis Park.
