Man arrested on suspicion of spying in Crete – house to NATO army base

A person has been arrested on suspicion of spying in Crete, which is house to a NATO army base.

Greek police stated the 26-year-old Azerbaijani man was detained on Sunday, primarily based on data from the nation’s intelligence service.

He had been staying in a lodge since 18 June close to the naval and air power base in western Crete – a strategic facility for Greece, the US and the NATO army alliance within the japanese Mediterranean.

Authorities are investigating whether or not he was monitoring the bottom in Souda and if the case is linked with the arrest of a British man in Cyprus on Friday on suspicion of espionage and terror offences, the sources stated.

The person arrested in Cyprus is reported to have stored RAF Akrotiri – the UK’s most vital airbase for operations within the Center East – on the island beneath surveillance.
